Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) classes are group classes conducted either in person or on-line. I give students verbal guidance to perform slowly, the gentle movements that are designed to bring awareness to the way they move. During a lesson you will generally explore specific patterns (e.g. lifting an arm, the connection of the eyes to turning the head), patterns that are linked to movements you make in life (e.g. taking something off a shelf, looking over a shoulder while driving). Lessons proceed through several variations of that pattern, encouraging exploration, clarifying the range of motion and offering enriched possibilities for making a movement. I encourage each student to be curious in ways that match their own body, comfort level, abilities, learning processes and pace. Lessons are frequently taught on the floor, though occasionally they may be done in a chair or in standing. I may suggest props to facilitate your comfort and ease of explorations, or an adaption to a position, to ensure your learning is supported in the best way possible.
You can participate no matter your age or fitness level. Wear comfortable clothing that allows movement without hindrance. Drop in or come on a regular basis and let the learning build organically.
